Railway trips. Ride on a steam train from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard and back. The West Somerset Railway is the longest vintage steam line in the country. There's also a water-operated cliff railway between Lynton and Lynmouth.

Dunster Castle, Dunster. Dramatic views, subtropical gardens and a working watermill in the grounds. 

Exmoor Pony Centre, just over Winsford Hill. You can learn about this ancient breed, ride a pony, adopt one or sponsor a foal. 

Sheppy's House of Cider, Taunton. Walk in the orchards, book a tour to visit the press and vat houses to see how cider is made. Stop off for lunch at the cafe or restaurant or pop into the farm shop. 

Day trip to Lundy (Puffin Island). Combines a cruise (nearly two hours each way) from Ilfracombe or Bideford, with time to explore an unspoilt island, see grey seals and rare birds, and visit the Marisco Tavern. Lundy has its own stamps.

Exmoor Owl and Hawk Centre in Allerford, near Porlock. Watch a flying display and visit the collection of animals including miniature Shetland ponies and a Pygmy goat.

Day trip to Woolacombe Beach. Three miles of white sand, backed by rolling dunes. Rock pools to splash about in, world class surf breaks, lifeguards and cliff top walks. 

Farmers Markets run every week in local towns like Dulverton, Minehead, South Molton and Tiverton.
